Legal and regulatory information
Information about the legal entities that make up Halden Rook, their professional status, and the policies we are asked about most often by clients’ procurement teams.
Halden Rook LLP
Halden Rook LLP is a limited liability partnership registered in England and Wales with registered number OC917263. Its registered office and principal place of business is 7 Wrenfield Place, London WC1R 4MV, United Kingdom. A list of the members of Halden Rook LLP, and of the non-members who are designated as partners, is open to inspection at the registered office.
The term “partner” is used to refer to a member of Halden Rook LLP, or to an employee or consultant of equivalent standing and qualifications. It does not mean that the firm is a partnership within the meaning of the Partnership Act 1890. The Senior Partner is Margaret Halden.
Halden Rook Inc.
Halden Rook Inc. is a corporation incorporated in the State of New York, with its principal office at 11 Ostrander Place, Fourth Floor, New York, NY 10013, United States. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Halden Rook LLP and provides the firm’s services to clients in North America.
Engagements are made with Halden Rook LLP or with Halden Rook Inc., as the engagement letter states. Each is responsible only for the services it provides.
Professional status
Halden Rook provides strategic communications advice. It is not a firm of solicitors or attorneys, it does not provide legal, financial, accounting or investment advice, and it is not authorised or regulated by any regulator of legal or financial services. Some of our people hold professional qualifications, including as barristers and chartered accountants; they do not practise as such at the firm, and their advice is not given in that capacity.
Communications between the firm and its clients are not in themselves protected by legal professional privilege. Where we work at the request of a client’s lawyers, our engagement letter says so, and we follow the arrangements the lawyers ask us to follow.
Professional indemnity insurance
Halden Rook LLP and Halden Rook Inc. maintain professional indemnity insurance covering the services they provide, with worldwide territorial coverage except where an engagement letter states otherwise. Details of the insurer and of the cover are available on request from enquiries@haldenrook.com.
Lobbying and political activity
We do not lobby ministers, legislators or officials on behalf of clients, and we are not registered as lobbyists in any jurisdiction. We do not act for political parties or candidates for elected office, and the firm makes no political donations. Where a matter requires contact with a regulator, court or investigator, it is made by the client or its lawyers, or with their knowledge.
Anti-bribery and corruption
We do not offer, pay, solicit or accept bribes, and we do not make facilitation payments. We do not pay for coverage, and we do not offer anything of value to journalists. Our policy, which applies to everyone who works for the firm and to those who work on its behalf, is designed to comply with the Bribery Act 2010 and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and is reviewed each year by the members. Gifts and hospitality given or received above a nominal value are recorded in a register.
We do not tolerate the facilitation of tax evasion by anyone acting for the firm, and we have procedures designed to prevent it, as the Criminal Finances Act 2017 requires.
Payment security
Our bank details are set out in our engagement letter and on our invoices, and they do not change. We will never tell you of a change to our bank details by email. If you receive a message that appears to come from us asking you to pay to a different account, do not pay; telephone the partner responsible for your matter, or our London office on +44 (0)20 7946 0217, using the number you already hold rather than any number in the message.
Other policies
Our modern slavery statement, complaints procedure and privacy notice are published on this website. Our equal opportunities, information security and conflicts policies, and our business continuity arrangements, are available to clients and prospective clients on request.
